A leading contractor for award-winning golf courses
Although often in large urban areas, golf courses are an integral part of rural landscapes and offer a diversity of habitats and wildlife. As such, a growing number of clubs and courses have come to the realisation that a naturalistic course is not only more inviting to wildlife and better for nature, but overall more appealing to golfers. Equally, since golf courses cover 1% of UK land, if managed correctly, they have the potential to not only connect many local communities with nature, but provide the best outcome for the local wildlife.
In this regard, RSPB Countryside Land Management have a broad level of experience in advising leading golf courses on habitat related issues and the effective conservation management of their courses. As part of this service, the team have produced comprehensive management plans, specifically aimed at helping to ensure the best outcome for both nature and the course.
RSPB CLM is currently working with a variety of golf courses in the South West. In many instances, we are their primary contractor for woodland and tree-related works, together with managing their Heathland habitats. We also provide advice on grassland management, together with pond and lake ecology and hedgerows.
A growing area of work, relates to our expertise in working with clubs to define their strategic approach in helping to enhance the overall visitor experience. This has ensured that not just the golfers, but their families have opportunities to connect with nature and the local habitat. We are happy to provide bespoke guided walks, lectures and events that connect other family members to the ecology of the site and course.
Core to any work we perform, is ensuring minimal impact to the surroundings. We are also very sensitive to the needs of our clients and their need for continued functionality while works are undertaken. This is particularly true when we are working on golf courses. Equally, in our experience, local golfers are often pleased to note that the RSPB is being used to consult or carry out works, which is also beneficial to the club.
